With UCs and CSUs cutting enrollment, transferring to an independent institution is definitely worth considering. California’s independent colleges and universities are not cutting enrollment and financial assistance remains available. Independent institutions award over $1 billion in  financial aid each year. Additionally, the State of California provides Cal Grants to students attending these schools that do not need to be paid back.
